The Branch Safety Manager provides technical safety and health support to production and Branch personnel. Develops Branch safety and health programs and objectives and coordinates safety training programs. Monitors safety and health regulations and provides technical support to production and Branch personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state safety and health regulations. This position reports directly to the Branch Regional Manager as required. We also prefer that the person in this position to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Essential Functions
- Works closely with staff in production, human resources, legal, operations, and research and development.
- Provides technical safety and health support and information to production and Branch personnel.
- Prepares written safety and health programs and policies.
- Identifies Branch safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs.
- Develops annual company safety and health goals.
- Participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses, operator training, etc.
- Supports production personnel in the selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Maintains Branch safety library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).
- Promotes safety and health awareness through internal Branch memoranda, newsletters, and specific training programs.
- Participates in company occupational safety and health committee.
- Assists as necessary in the implementation of a hazard communication program and preparation of reports.
- Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for safety and health considerations.
- Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
- Provides technical support to Branch and production personnel to ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations.
- Advises production and Branch staff of regulatory changes with which the branches must comply. Sufficient advance notice should be provided so that compliance with the effective date of new regulations is ensured.
- Audits practices and records to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations.
- Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker's compensation claims.
- Reviews production safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follow up, as necessary.
- Reviews injury/illness and noninjury incident investigation reports and follows up, as necessary.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has direct supervisory of the safety at the branch.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment and on various job sites. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

The employee must frequently lift and move up to twenty-five pounds and occasionally lift and move up to fifty pounds. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Completed appropriate OSHA courses
- Proficient in Microsoft Products
- At least 6+ years of ship repair industry experience
- Prior experience as a Safety Manager
- Possess a valid driver's license
