The Safety Technician is responsible for supporting the safety program and the overall compliance of safety and compliance of OSHA requirements within their branch. This position reports directly to the respective Regional or Branch Manager as required.

Essential Functions

  1. Perform daily project safety oversight and observations.
  2. Report daily safety observation to the assigned Safety Representative.
  3. Coordinate with project supervisors and report safety issues requiring corrective actions and/or enforcement of requirements.
  4. Take immediate corrective actions and stop work for imminent threat of serious injury.
  5. Provide project safety support as requested.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates on various job sites and an office setting. This role needs to use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, noisy, hot, cold. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE when required. Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching, and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to twenty-five pounds and occasionally lift and move up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or what the schedule deems appropriate. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Required Education and Experience

  1. OSHA 10 Hour Maritime training or completed within 3 months (Required)
  2. High School Diploma or GED equivalent (Preferred)
  3. Understanding of basic safety principles
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Required)
  5. Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  6. Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  8. High performance and a strong team player
  9. Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures
  10. Commitment to company values, policies and procedures and the safety program
