The Safety Manager is responsible for conducting training, maintaining the safety program and the overall compliance of safety and compliance of OSHA requirements within their branch. This position reports directly to the superintendent, General Manager, and Corporate Safety Manager as required.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintains, controls and inventories PPE and equipment for all trades
  • Must be able to possess the ability to understand and administer OSHA, ABS Classification Guidelines, USCG, NAVSEA and SOLAS requirements
  • Conduct weekly, emergency response and orientation safety training for trades and office personnel as requires
  • Conducts random inspection/audits of work sites to ensure safety compliance is in place
  • Maintains safety documentation required in accordance with OSHA requirements
  • Evaluates field safety conditions through audit/monitoring and advise management on findings: tracks corrections of all deficiencies
  • Report and assist in the control of environmental hazards as mandated
  • Review and advise management of worker credentials as required
  • Documents and reports to management of supervisors and workers' safety compliance
  • Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce the safety policies, guideline, and procedures
  • Assist in the identification of possible losses; evaluating the risk in such loss exposure, and develop and implement a plan to correct or prevent a loss.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental studies, Safety, Chemistry or related field (preferred)
  • 2-3 years of professional experience with a strong knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety regulations
  • Possess knowledge of hazardous waste regulation and OSHA requirements
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • High performance and a strong team player
  • Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures
  • Commitment to company values, policies and procedures and the safety program

Working Conditions:

  • Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in an office controlled environment.
  • May have to visit projects aboard ships, rigs both on and offshore as well as confined spaces. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE when required.
  • Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.
