The NDT/QA Technician is responsible for the top level technical quality, validity, and training of welding inspections and inspectors, as well as other inspections and documentation on the site, for project(s). This position reports directly to the Program Manager and the General Manager as required.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supervise NDT/NDE Inspectors, sub-contract inspection personnel (when applicable), and monitor the allocation, work quality and quantity.
  • Coordination with Project Management, Production, Customers and Third-Party Surveyors as required.
  • Preparation of and oversight of Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Reports.
  • Review and Certification of Final Documentation for Customers.
  • Review and Approval of Subcontractor / Vendor Inspection Reports.
  • Provide an interface between Walashek supervision and client inspection personnel. Includes assisting client inspection/engineering personnel in the preparation of plans, drawings, welding procedures, inspection requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the verification and documentation of all work is being completed to applicable codes, standards and client specifications, and for the planning and control of welding materials, welding procedures and welding operations.
  • Perform field inspections.
  • Assist in Business Development via company certifications, meetings with potential clients, participate in trade shows and events, and participate in industry meetings.

 

Required Education and Experience:

 

  • High School or GED, Higher education in Marine Engineering disciplines preferred
  • At least six years of Quality Control / NDT experience in a Fabrication Shop or a Shipyard.
  • Additional CWI, CSWIP, CWE, ASNT Certification preferred.
  • Certified ASNT / CWI / CWE Level III in any of the following methods:- Dye Penetrant (combination of Type I and Type II)- Radiography Operator (combination of Gamma & X-Ray)
  • - Ultrasonic (Thickness & Shearwave)
  • - Magnetic Particle (combination of Dry Method & Wet Method)
  • - Visual/Dimensional
  • Gas free engineer, competent person
  • Thermography and/or Gas Optical Imaging Experience a plus
  • Experienced welder background a plus
  • Ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance and/or DBIDS for access to USN / DoD Facilities.
  • Ability to obtain Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)  

Working Conditions:

  • Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in an office controlled environment.
  • May have to visit projects aboard ships, rigs both on and offshore as well as confined spaces. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE when required.
  • Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.
  • Some travel required
